Hi community-

A question on the HRA and Housing loan claim by employees. While residing the same city, can we allow both the HRA as well as Interest on housing loan?

Hi Swati,

Both HRA deductions and home loan benefits can be claimed only if you rent a house because the distance between your owned-residence and place of work is at least 35 Kilometres. As both home loan interest tax exemption and HRA fall under different sections, you are allowed to claim both HRA and home loan benefits.

Hi

Yes…

Both can be claimed provided the employee(s) are under tenancy (to claim HRA) and If they’ve a Housing Loan (permissible exemption on Interest & Principal Amounts)
