Curious to Know: What is Generative AI and How Could It Help HR?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been hearing a lot about AI tools lately, especially something called “generative AI.” I’m not from a tech background, so I’m hoping someone here can help me understand in simple terms — what is generative AI exactly?

From what little I’ve read, it seems like it can create content like text, images, or even videos. That sounds exciting, but I’m wondering how this could be relevant in the HR space.

Could generative AI be used for tasks like writing job descriptions, automating employee communication, or even analyzing feedback from surveys? Are there any real-world examples where it’s already being used in HR?

Also, is it something small or mid-sized companies can start exploring, or is it still mostly for large enterprises?

I’d love to hear how others in the HR community see this evolving — or if anyone’s already tried using such tools in their workflow.

Thanks in advance!

Warm regards,
Nicole Sanders

Great question — and you’re definitely not alone in wondering about this!

Generative AI is a type of artificial intelligence that can create new content — like text, images, audio, or even video — based on patterns it has learned from existing data. Think of it as a super-smart assistant that can write, summarize, or even design things for you.

In the HR world, generative AI has a lot of exciting and practical use cases, even for non-tech-savvy teams:

:white_check_mark: Writing Job Descriptions & Emails: Generative AI tools like ChatGPT can draft customized job descriptions, internal announcements, or onboarding messages in seconds, saving time and ensuring consistency.

:white_check_mark: Survey Analysis: Instead of manually reviewing hundreds of open-ended survey responses, AI can summarize themes and sentiments, helping HR teams understand what employees are really feeling.

:white_check_mark: Creating HR Policies or FAQs: AI can help create or rephrase policy documents in clear, employee-friendly language.

:white_check_mark: Training Content: It can generate learning materials, scripts for role-play, or even quiz questions for training modules.
