Zoho CEO Sridhar Vembu Ventures Into Mechatronics!

Sridhar Vembu, CEO and co-founder of the SaaS giant Zoho, recently announced the launch of Karuvi, a new mechatronics startup based in Chennai. The company aims to specialise in designing and manufacturing both consumer and industrial power tools, as well as other mechanical systems. The name “Karuvi,” derived from the Tamil language, translates to “instrument” or “tool,” reflecting the company’s focus.

Vembu shared on a platform that the inception of Karuvi began nearly two years ago with the formation of a small engineering team. After undergoing numerous iterations and refinements, the startup is now ready to commence commercial production of its range of power tools. Interestingly, Karuvi is preparing to establish a factory in Tenkasi, the headquarters of Zoho, suggesting potential synergies between the two entities.

The product lineup of Karuvi currently includes a variety of power tools such as angle grinders, corded and cordless drills, rotary hammers, and saws, catering to both professional and domestic users. Additionally, the company’s website hints at upcoming offerings in batteries, hand tools, and accessories, promising a comprehensive solution for consumers.

Adopting an offline sales approach, Karuvi intends to penetrate diverse markets by establishing a network of professionals and authorised dealers who share its vision for the tech-enabled power tool industry. This strategy is in line with the company’s objective of delivering precise and technologically advanced machine tools to the market.
