Is background verification/ police verification mandatory to onboard new employees. Is there any law around it? What are the best ways to conduct verification?

Usually police verification/background verification is not a mandatory practice . There is no legal requirement or standard for companies in India to conduct background checks on prospective employees, except in certain cases .
