What do rules say about maximum working hours in India? What is the break up of meal and other breaks in those hours?

Hi Nitin,
The working hours, rest intervals, overtime, holidays, etc., of employees, are governed by the Shops and Establishments Act and Rules of the respective States / UTs. Every State/UT has prescribed the work hours and rest intervals for the employees and workmen.

The Industrial Employment (Standing Orders) Act and Rules, govern certain establishments, and the Factories Act and Rules are applicable to the factories in the respective States/UTs.
