Corporate Secretary In India

Hello,

I would like to know few things about being a corporate secretary for an India company

  1. Can an expat (non-Indian) become a corporate secretary?
  2. If yes - what are the education qualifications that must be taken
  3. Is there an examination to be qualified as CS?
  4. Can you recommend a school or a center where an aspiring CS can approach

Thank you for your replies

Hi Ludy,

If your query is about the Company Secretary -

In India, the Company Secretaryship is governed by the laws of Company Secretaries Act and Company Secretaries Regulations, with corresponding rules.

Membership has to be taken with ICSI (The Institute of Company Secretaries in India) and it has institutions established in many countries as well.

With regard to your queries -

  1. Can an expat (non-Indian) become a corporate secretary?
According to the Companies Secretaries Act, under the Reciprocity section (sec 38), any country that allows reciprocal practices of a person with Indian domicile, expats of such countries are allowed to practice in India.

  2. If yes - what are the education qualifications that must be taken

  3. Is there an examination to be qualified as CS?

Have to clear CS examination (it is conducted in 3 levels - foundation, executive, professional)

  1. Can you recommend a school or a center where an aspiring CS can approach
You can visit ICSI website ; you will get the course / registration details and also the nearby institutions through which you can get the required coaching.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
