Khaitan & Co. Introduces Menstrual Leave Policy

Khaitan & Co, a leading full-service law firm, has introduced a menstrual leave policy for its members, demonstrating the firm’s progressive ideology and marking a significant step towards greater gender inclusivity. This initiative further reaffirms the firm’s commitment to prioritising its members’ health and well-being by recognising the challenges faced by individuals due to menstruation, menopause, and their associated complexities.

Amar Sinhji, Executive Director – Human Resources, at Khaitan & Co., said, “Our firm, in its unwavering commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, has always strived to do what is right and support our people. We believe that by providing the option of Menstrual Leave to our members, we empower them to prioritize their health, setting a precedent for a more compassionate and equitable workplace where everyone can thrive. We hope that the introduction of this policy sets a tone for many others to follow inclusive practices that become the norm across industries. Our endeavour towards continuous learning and the adoption of best practices remains resolute, ensuring genuine equity within our firm.”

Effective immediately, every member at Khaitan & Co is entitled to a maximum of 12 paid days per calendar year for reasons related to menstruation, menopause, and the associated challenges. This will not require any medical certificate to be presented to avail of the leave. The firm acknowledges that the decision to take menstrual leave is at the discretion of individual members. This forward-thinking approach not only cements the firm’s leadership in the legal industry but also highlights a promise to foster an empathetic and supportive work environment.

Khaitan & Co also offers its members a range of several other leave options, including Study Leave, Paternal Leave, Flexi Time, Adoption & Sabbatical Leave and more. The firm aims to cultivate a sense of belonging where its members feel included, respected, and psychologically safe to bring their authentic selves to work. As part of Khaitan & Co’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) initiative, ARISE, it is imperative to not only nurture an inclusive and welcoming workplace but also help bring in a diverse and talented set of professionals into the firm.
