I am currently unemployed since past 6-7 months. I applied for PF transfer from my previous firm to my most recent firm (Worked at previous firm from 2012 till 2017). But it was rejected with the reason ‘member was not previously member, why give EPS membership clarify’.
Prior to this organization I had completely withdrawn my PF balance and started with a new PF member id with new firm in 2012.
My passbook shows both EPS & EPF contributions, but EPFO rejecting my own PF money. I contacted my previous employer, but they are just dillydallying.
Can I rectify this rejection online though EPFO login? Plz advice, I am helpless.

Hi Gaurav,
The rejection reason (as you have mentioned) —‘member was not previously member, why give EPS membership clarify’—indicates a discrepancy in your EPS membership status between your previous employments.
Let us try to understand the circumstance:
When you withdrew your PF balance before joining the firm in 2012, it likely included both your EPF and EPS amounts, effectively ending your membership in both schemes. Upon joining the new firm in 2012, a new PF account was created for you. However, if your employer continued to make EPS contributions without re-establishing your EPS membership, it could lead to inconsistencies in EPFO’s records, resulting in the rejection of your transfer request.
A few recommendations are:
- Contact Your Previous Employer:
- Request them to verify whether your EPS membership was correctly established when you joined in 2012.
- If not, ask them to submit a correction to the EPFO, ensuring your EPS membership details are accurate.
- Submit a Joint Declaration Form:
- If your employer is unresponsive, you can submit a Joint Declaration Form to the EPFO.
- This form, signed by both you and your employer, allows for corrections in your PF records.
- Include a cover letter explaining the situation and attach relevant documents, such as your appointment letter, payslips showing EPS deductions, and the rejection letter from EPFO.
- Raise a Grievance with EPFO:
- If the issue persists, file a grievance through the EPFO’s online portal:
- Visit the EPFO Grievance Management System.
- Select ‘Register Grievance’ and provide the necessary details, including your UAN, personal information, and a description of the issue.
- Attach any supporting documents that can help clarify your case.
Key Considerations:
- Documentation: Ensure all your documents, such as your UAN, Aadhaar, and bank details, are correctly updated in the EPFO records.
- Follow-Up: Regularly check the status of your grievance or correction request through the EPFO portal or by contacting the EPFO helpdesk.
- Professional Assistance: If the issue remains unresolved, consider seeking help from a legal professional or a PF consultant specializing in EPF/EPS matters.
By taking these steps, you can work towards rectifying the discrepancies and successfully transferring your PF balance.
Hope this helps.
