EPF transfer rejected as previous employer contributed to EPS though not eligible

Dear Community,

Recently my PF transfer request was rejected by EPFO due to EPS mismatch.
On investigation I found out that I am not eligible for EPS as when I started my carrier in 2017 my salary was above 15,000. However my first two companies contributed to EPS wrongly due to oversight/wrong filing of Form 11. But the third company never contributed to EPS. And now I am not able to transfer PF from my third company to current(4th) company.

Here is my job history:

  1. Org A: DOJ: 17/04/2017, DOE: 12/10/2018 → Wrongly contributed to EPS
  2. Org B: DOJ: 22/10/2018, DOE: 30/09/2022 → Wrongly contributed to EPS
  3. Org C: DOJ: 03/10/2022, DOE: 09/02/2024 → No contribution to EPS, PF balance transfered to Org C, EPS balance was not transfered
  4. Org B: DOJ: 12/02/2024 → current company(rehired) - PF transfer rejected due to EPS mismatch

I have received EPS clarification letter from Org A(soft copy). I am also following up with Org B to receive the clarification letter. But, somehow I am not able to submit joint declaration online for Org A.

Can anyone in this forum kindly suggest what I need to do to rectify the issue?

Hi @suhansaha ,

Here’s what’s happening in your case and what you can do to resolve it :backhand_index_pointing_down:

Why the Transfer Was Rejected

  • You were never eligible for EPS (since your salary at joining in 2017 was >₹15,000).

  • But Org A & Org B mistakenly contributed to EPS because of wrong Form 11 submission.

  • Org C did not contribute to EPS and when you tried to transfer PF from Org C → Org B (rehire), EPFO flagged a mismatch:

    • Earlier PF accounts show EPS contribution.

    • New PF account (Org C onward) does not show EPS.

  • This mismatch leads to transfer rejection.

What You Need to Do

  1. Collect Clarification Letters

    • You already have EPS clarification from Org A (good).

    • Get the same from Org B. This letter confirms that EPS contributions were made erroneously due to oversight.

  2. Joint Declaration / EPS Correction

    • Normally, you would submit a joint declaration with employer + employee to EPFO to correct service details (like EPS).

    • Since the online joint declaration isn’t working for Org A, you’ll need to:

      • Take a hard copy of the joint declaration, signed by both you and the employer, and submit it physically to the regional EPFO office.

      • Attach EPS clarification letters from Org A and Org B.

  3. Request to EPFO for EPS Rectification

    • Along with the letters, write a covering letter to EPFO stating:

      • You were not eligible for EPS as per salary >₹15,000.

      • Contributions by Org A and B were erroneous.

      • Kindly remove/rectify EPS entries and allow PF transfer.

  4. Follow-up at EPFO Office

    • EPS corrections often require manual intervention by the PF Enforcement/Accounts Officer.

    • Once rectified, the system will allow your PF transfer from Org C → Org B (current employer).

Practical Tips

  • Carry copies of Form 11, salary slips, and clarification letters when visiting EPFO.

  • If Org B delays, escalate internally (HR/Payroll) — EPS correction cannot proceed without their clarification.

  • Keep all communication in writing (email/letters) for proof.

It can be resolved by contacting the branch, there are no online steps.

If your EPF transfer was rejected because the previous employer contributed to EPS though not eligible:

  • Contact your previous employer and request them to correct the EPS contribution in the EPF portal.

  • Ensure the EPF account details and contribution history are accurate.

  • Once corrected, re-initiate the EPF transfer through the UAN portal.

  • If issues persist, you can raise a grievance on the EPF member portal under the “Grievances” section.
