Night working shifts

Hi,

In case of setting up night working shifts. Are there additional points to be considered on the compensation for night shifts? What time duration fall under night shift? Extra facilities etc.

Please share your thoughts.

Thank you.

Hi @Anisha

This is a very big topic - Iā€™m trying to keep it short here.

Night shifts generally refer to working hours between 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. In India, legislations like the Plantation Labour Act, 1951, Factories Act, 1948, State Shops and Establishments Act, etc. contained provisions restricting work during night for women.

In ITes and IT industry provision of women employees working after 8PM is allowed provided transportation till door step and other security measures for women employees are adhered.

Also you need to come up with a policy for Types of work schedules: likely - Fixed / Rotating / Extending hour shifts etc.

Along with this there needs to be an additional night shift allowance, and all medical / food arrangements to be made available for employees.

If there is a women employee then additional measure along with HR team needs to be made - like CCTV / Prevention of Un-Authorised access persons / Cab and etc.,
