Hey @StJoseph ,

The error message you’re encountering, “Member is not a member of pension scheme. EPS wages should be zero,” typically occurs when there is an issue related to the Employee Pension Scheme (EPS) contribution in the Employee’s Provident Fund (EPF) Electronic Challan cum Return (ECR) filing. This error indicates that the system has identified a problem with the pension scheme details for a specific employee.

Here are the steps you can take to resolve this issue:

  1. Check Eligibility: Verify whether the employee is eligible for the Employee Pension Scheme. Generally, employees earning above a certain threshold are eligible for the pension scheme. Ensure that the employee meets the eligibility criteria.
  2. Correct EPS Wages: EPS wages should be zero for employees who are not eligible for the pension scheme or for those who have crossed the threshold age for pension contribution. Ensure that the EPS wages field is correctly set to zero for such employees in your ECR.
  3. Age Criteria: The pension scheme eligibility is also determined by age. If an employee has crossed the age of 58 and hasn’t opted to contribute to the EPS, their EPS wages should be zero. Ensure that you have updated their age and pension scheme status accurately.
  4. Date of Joining: Sometimes, discrepancies occur when an employee has joined the organization after the pension scheme cutoff date. Double-check the employee’s date of joining and ensure it aligns with the pension scheme criteria.
  5. Employee Opt-Out: If an employee has chosen to opt out of the pension scheme, ensure that the EPS wages are zero for them. Employees have the option to opt out of the pension scheme within a certain time frame.
  6. Documentation: Maintain proper documentation of any employees who are not part of the pension scheme. This can include employee requests, opt-out forms, or any other relevant records.
  7. EPFO Guidelines: Refer to the latest guidelines issued by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) to ensure that you are following the correct procedures.
  8. Software Updates: Ensure that you are using the latest version of the EPF ECR filing software. Sometimes, errors can occur due to outdated software.

If you continue to face difficulties in resolving the issue, it’s advisable to reach out to your organization’s HR department or EPF consultant. They can provide specific guidance based on your organization’s policies and the employee’s details. Additionally, you can contact the EPFO helpline for assistance in resolving technical issues related to the ECR filing process.

Hope this is helpful.

Sachin
