When employees are working from home, is it mandatory for employer to given them a day off for voting or can they give permission for few hours for voting.

Employer may declare a holiday or give permission to employee for exercising voting rights. Usually EC will direct respective states to declare holidays during general elections. Business continuity is a factor eventhough the states declare a holiday. For those who are in essential services and for those with no voting rights in a specific state may have alternative options compensatory off for working on a Gen Holiday.

When EC direct state Government to declare a General Holiday, whether working from home or office (if reside in a state) doesn’t matter I guess. Howver for emote/distributed employees, in effect, they are not going to exercise votes and hence can work if there is a requirement. At the same time, if voting is happening in different states other than prime location of the organization / HQ, employer may give those employees, a few hours of permission.
