i have a doubt about dual contribution if the employee has dual pf contribution the employment years also same than what to do any solutions?
That Hr can do

What “Dual PF Contribution” Means

This typically happens when:

  • An employee’s PF wages are split across two different employers (sometimes due to overlapping employment or error).

  • Or, the same employee is shown as having two PF accounts with contributions during the same employment period.

Why This is a Problem

  • EPFO rules don’t allow overlapping service periods for the same employee.

  • Dual contributions for the same employment year create a mismatch in the service history (tenure calculation) and pension eligibility (EPS).

  • This can cause issues during withdrawal, transfer, or pension processing.

Solutions / Next Steps

  1. Check UAN linkage

    • Every employee should have only one UAN (Universal Account Number).

    • If contributions are going into two different PF accounts, check if they’re mapped to the same UAN.

  2. Merge/Transfer PF Accounts

    • If there are two PF accounts, apply for account merging via the EPFO portal (UAN → Service History → One Employee One EPF Account).

    • Once merged, contributions will consolidate into a single PF account.

  3. Rectify Dual Service Overlap

    • If service periods are shown as overlapping, the employer(s) must submit a joint declaration to EPFO correcting the service records.

    • Sometimes the second employer must correct the DOJ (Date of Joining) or DOE (Date of Exit) in the portal to remove overlaps.

  4. EPS (Pension) Implications

    • Dual EPS contributions for the same period are not permissible.

    • EPFO will only consider one service record for pension calculation.

    • The extra EPS contribution may get adjusted or refunded to EPF, but service overlap needs correction first.

  5. Coordinate with Employer(s)

    • The employee should raise the issue with both HR/payroll teams.

    • Employer(s) need to file corrections in the EPFO system (through ECR or joint declaration).
