Query relating to hiring interns

Hi team,

I saw a previous post on this community regarding interns, however had 2 questions in mind regarding offering internships. Would appreciate your answers.

  1. What is the maximum time limit set by law regarding the number of hours an intern can work per week for the organization? (If there exists any)
  2. Can a 3 months’ internship be further extended to 3 more months with an increase in stipend?

Hi @Mugdhavn13

Paid interns are company employees, even if they’re trainees. As employees, they’re entitled to at least a minimum wage and to overtime pay if they work more than 40 hours a week.

And internship extension till one year is of no problem, and many companies even today extend internship beyond 12 months with a small gap inbetween and re hire the same interns.

As a practice 1 year internship is advisable, and post that either hiring them or relieving them is a good choice.
